Within Apple, there is said to be a project group codenamed Titan. The company has recently conducted research into the feasibility of developing its own electric car. The plans give the green light to grow the project team from 600 to 1,800 employees, according to The Wall Street Journal. It is still unclear which car manufacturer Apple will partner with, but BMW was previously mentioned as an option.

Rumors about Apple’s car have been around for a long time. Recently it appeared that Apple’s car, in addition to being electrically powered, may also become self-driving; such plans are in leaked documents and Apple spoke with the US state of California about allowing self-driving cars on the road. According to The Wall Street Journal, people with expertise in self-driving cars have recently been hired. Despite this, the first car Apple releases will not be self-driving, but future models may be. Competitor Google has been developing such vehicles for some time now.
