Apple TV gets multi-user support
The Apple TV set-top box is getting multi-user support. Apple made the announcement at its WWDC developer conference. This allows the set-top box, among other things, to provide personalized recommendations for various family members.
It is still unknown what the integration of various users in the interface will look like. Apple only showed screens with recommendations for various users, but not how to switch between different users.
In addition to multi-user support, tvOS will also receive support for using Xbox and PlayStation controllers to play games. That should work in combination with Arcade, Apple’s upcoming subscription service for games. That works on tvOS, macOS and on iPads and iPhones.
Apple did not specify for which versions of the set-top box the new software will be released and when that will happen. It is obvious that the latest versions of Apple TV will get the new version of tvOS. Apple usually releases operating systems in the fall.
