Apple TV app appears on XH90 TV and comes to other Sony TVs before the end of the year
Sony has started making the Apple TV app available for its XH90 LCD television. This will be the first television on which the Apple app will be available. Before the end of the year, that should also be the case for most Sony TVs from 2019 and 2020 and a few from 2018.
Sony says it started on Wednesday to release the needed software update for the XH90, but owners of other Sony models will have to wait a little longer. The manufacturer will also make the Apple TV app available for most 2019 and 2020 TVs and a few from 2018, but it is not known which models are affected and when the updates will be released.
Sony tells FlatpanelsHD that the app supports 4k, hdr and Dolby Atmos. Owners of Sony televisions that support this can, for example, use it with hdr content from Apple TV +, Apple’s streaming service that was announced in March last year and officially launched on November 1. Apple TV + is part of the Apple TV app. The app also contains TV channels and other content.
Apart from owners of the Apple TV 4K, iPhones or the iPad, LG and Samsung in particular have added support for the Apple TV app. At LG, the app is available with its OLED TVs from 2020, 2019 and 2018, as well as a considerable number of LCD TVs. Samsung offers the app on a large number of its QLED and UHD televisions, among other things. Furthermore, Amazon Fire TV offers support on its products and Vizio does that for a number of televisions. Manufacturers such as Panasonic and Philips do not yet offer the app.
