‘Apple to offer podcasts via its own app in iOS 6’
Apple reportedly plans to no longer offer podcasts in iOS 6 in its digital store iTunes. Instead, a separate app will become available that will allow users to download podcasts to their iPhone or iPad.
According to All Things D, the podcast application will be available as soon as the new version of Apple’s mobile operating system iOS 6 is released. A new version of iTunes will be released, from which the range of podcasts has disappeared. It would also remain possible to download podcasts from older versions of iTunes. iOS 6 is expected to be released to users in the fall.
By offering podcasts separately in their own app, Apple probably wants to give them more attention. So far, the use of such media files has not become very popular. The application allows users to search for podcasts and download and play them directly on their iOS device.
Apple announced iOS 6 at its own WWDC developer event. The software offers, among other things, more integration with Facebook and its own version of the maps application has been developed, whereby Google Maps has to clear the field.
