Apple: There are over two billion active devices among users

During the announcement of the quarterly figures of the last months of last year, Apple announced that the milestone of two billion active devices has been reached. This concerns, for example, iPhones, iPads, Macs and other hardware products from the company.

This number was achieved during the last fourth quarter of last year, reports CEO Tim Cook during a commentary on the quarterly results. A year ago, the number of 1.8 billion active devices was already reached, in January 2021 it was 1.65 billion and in January 2020 the counter stood at 1.5 billion. Apple considers a device to be active if it has interacted with an Apple service in the past 90 days, so it spans a variety of product groups.

During an oral explanation of the results, Cook said that production of the iPhones is back at the desired level, although there were still problems to date. These stemmed from the pandemic, resulting in delivery problems with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max in particular. This, combined with the reduced macro-economic situation, meant that fewer of these devices were delivered. Sales of the smartphone segment amounted to $65.8 billion, down 8 percent from a year earlier.

In the past quarter, sales of Macs in particular fell. That turnover amounted to 7.7 billion dollars, a decrease of 29 percent. The company says this is in line with expectations, as redesigned MacBook Pro laptops with M1 Pro and M1 Max processors were introduced during the last quarter of 2021, and those sales were partially factored into the results reported in January 2022. New versions with M2 Pro and M2 Max socks were announced last month, but sales will only be part of upcoming quarterly figures.

Apple’s total sales amounted to $ 117.2 billion, a decrease of 5 percent. Net profit fell from $34.6 billion to just under $30 billion.
