‘Apple tackles sites that give access to iOS 6 for a fee’

Apple is said to be cracking down on sites that give users access to betas of its mobile OS through developer accounts. The sites would make a lot of profit by giving iPhones access to iOS 6 for a fee.

Using the unique identifier, udid, each developer can give 100 iPhones access to test versions of iOS 6. Because a developer license costs about $100, a developer makes about $900 in profit selling the slots for $10 each. When the slots run out, such sites open a new developer account. The largest of those sites, UDIDactivation.com, is said to have helped 2,300 people with a test version of iOS 6 in a week. The betas are for developers only.

Apple would now be chasing sites that violate Apple’s terms and conditions with this practice, MacStories reports. The site was able to speak to a site owner who claims his site is down due to a claim from Apple. Other site owners could not be reached.
