The Apple monitor Studio Display also works with Windows machines. That is what the manufacturer has announced. However, various functions are missing, such as activating digital assistant Siri with a voice command and centering the camera image based on the people in the frame.

The webcam in the Studio Display does work as a regular USB webcam, Apple tells The Verge. The webcam’s software functions are missing, including Center Stage. This is a function to adjust the cropping of the image to the person or persons that can be seen in the image. The speakers also function under Windows, but Spatial Audio does not work.

Updates for the monitor also run via Mac computers and cannot be done via Windows, the manufacturer says. The manufacturer also warns that not all machines can handle the maximum resolution of the screen, 5120×2880 pixels.

Apple announced the $1,779 monitor at its own online event on Tuesday evening. The monitor comes out next week. The Studio Display has a 27″ screen with a 60Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 600 candelas per square meter.
