Apple shares workaround that reduces screen size for MacBook Pro notch issues

Users who suffer from the MacBook Pro’s notch with certain apps can virtually shrink their screen, making the notch outside the program. Apple is now sharing information about that Scale to fit below built-in camera feature.

The feature allows users to scale back the screen so that a program takes up fewer pixels at the top. This way the users get thicker bezels on the top. Since the aspect ratio remains intact, the bezels on the left and right sides also become thicker.

Users can find the function within the info menu of a program. The function reduces the screen size when part of the program or menu bar buttons disappear behind the notch. Then the whole screen is reduced; so other apps that are currently being used will also be reduced in size. As soon as the user closes the program in question, the screen display returns to full screen.

Apple last week announced new MacBook Pro models that have thinner screen bezels. As a result, there is a notch at the top for the webcam. Not all programs are optimized for that notch yet, so that buttons can disappear behind that notch, for example. As soon as developers optimize their apps for the notch, the Scale to fit below built-in camera function disappears and the apps are shown in full screen again.
