Apple sells new 27-inch monitor in LG UltraFine 5K series for 1399 euros
Apple has put a new version of its LG UltraFine 5K monitor in its web store. It is still a 27″ monitor with a resolution of 5120×2880 pixels, with the most important addition being the ability to connect the screen to iPad Pro models from 2018.
The new LG Ultrafine 5K monitor now has support for both Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C, allowing the display to be connected to 2018 Mac systems and iPad Pro models. Previously, this display could only be connected to devices via Thunderbolt. There is a single Thunderbolt 3 connection and there are also three USB 3.1 connections for peripherals. For example, a MacBook Pro can be supplied with power via an included Thunderbolt 3 cable. The charging power is 94W, which is higher than the 85W of the predecessor.
For the rest, the screen appears to be largely identical to the predecessor from 2016, both in terms of resolution and housing. The maximum brightness of the IPS monitor reaches up to 500cd/m² and according to LG, the screen can display dci-p3 color space. The new version has built-in speakers, a webcam and a microphone. To use the new screen, macOS 10.14.6 or iOS 12.4 is required. The screen costs 1399 euros, which is the same price as the predecessor from 2016.
Earlier this year, LG also came with a new UltraFine 4K monitor. This is a 23.7″ model with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. It replaced the previous 21.5″ monitor with a resolution of 4096×2304 pixels.
