Apple sold 39.3 million iPhones in the past quarter. That’s significantly more than the 33.8 million iPhones in the same period last year. iPad sales fell from 14.1 million to approximately 12.3 million units.

The annual growth in the number of iPhones sold comes from 33.8 million to 39.3 million at 16 percent, according to the figures that have been released. In the past quarter, Apple released the iPhone 6, which likely contributed to the increased sales, although iPhone sales, adjusted for seasonality, have been on the rise for some time.

Apple recently announced that the release of the iPhone 6 has set a sales record in the first days after its release. Precise figures on the share of the new smartphone in quarterly sales have not been disclosed, although the number is in the millions. In a conference call following the quarterly results, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the 4.7″ version of the iPhone 6 is significantly more popular than the 5.5″ variant.

Although iPhone sales are growing, iPad sales are not doing so well. As in the previous two quarters, Apple sold fewer tablets compared to the same period last year. 12.3 million iPads were sold. Macs sold in the quarter were 5.5 million units, significantly up from 4.6 million for the same period last year. Never before has Apple sold so many Macs in one quarter. iPod sales continued to decline to 2.6 million units.

Financially, Apple’s revenue of $42.1 billion and a profit of $8.5 billion, or EUR 32.9 billion and EUR 6.6 billion, was better than the same quarter last year. Then revenue and profit came in at $37.5 billion and $7.5 billion.
