Apple seems to be using its own NVme SSD controller for MacBook

Apple’s new MacBook appears to have a PCI-e SSD that supports NVM Express. In addition, Apple would have used a custom controller to control the flash chips on the compact motherboard.

The controller in the new Macbook supports nvmhci, or non-volatile memory host controller interface express. This successor to the ahci interface is optimized for SSDs and not only increases throughputs but also lowers latency and can better handle processors that use multithreading.

The nvm express controller, which was discovered by Ifixit when dismantling a MacBook, is not placed separately on the motherboard of the MacBook, but included in a package on package. It also contains 512MB of Hynix lpddr3 caching memory. Although it is a controller specially designed for Apple, it is unclear which company exactly designed the controller. There would be indications that the doll was manufactured by TSMC.
