Apple removes Secret from Brazilian App Store

Apple has removed the secret app Secret from the Brazilian App Store, because it is said to be in violation of the Brazilian constitution. A judge in the South American country has ordered Apple to remove the app from the App Store within ten days and to delete it from users’ devices.

There are no reports yet that Apple has removed the app from users’ iPhones, but Secret can no longer be found in the Brazilian App Store, 9to5 Mac reports. Apple says it always complies with local laws and regulations and this is probably a result of that; therefore it is obvious that the iPhone maker will also remove the app from devices.

A Brazilian judge recently ruled that Secret violates the Brazilian constitution. It states in Section IV of Article 5 that freedom of expression is only allowed if it is not anonymous. Apple had ten days to comply with the judge’s ruling.

The question is whether Google will also comply with the ruling: the ruling does apply to the search giant, because Secret also came out for Android.

Secret is an app where people can anonymously put secrets online. Other users do not see who wrote something, only whether it is someone in the contact list or whether it is a contact of a contact. The anonymous confession app has been around since the beginning of this year.
