Apple releases series of iPads without Face ID
Indications have been found that Apple will release a number of new iPad variants that do not include Face ID. It concerns four models, the existence of which has not been confirmed but references have been found in source code.
The references to the new iPads were found in the code of iOS version 12.2, of which only a beta version is currently available. Developer Steve Troughton-Smith found the code, referring to the iPad 11 in four variants; two with wifi only, and two with 4g support as well. The configurations of the mentioned models indicate that Face ID is not supported, according to Troughton-Smith.
Further support for the suspicions of new iPads being released came through the certification office of the Eurasian Economic Commission. It recently approved seven different models, codenamed A2123, A2124, A2126, A2153, A2154, A2133 and A2152.
The code also contains a reference to a new iPod Touch, codenamed iPod 9. It also has to do without Face ID, but there is also no Touch ID present. It is unclear what the further specifications are, but there have already been rumors about a new iPod Touch,
One of the new iPads may be a successor to the current iPad Mini. There have been rumors for some time that Apple is coming with a new version of its smallest tablet.
