Apple releases new iPad without a physical home button and iPad Pro with M2 soc
Apple has released a major update for the iPad. The new model is particularly notable because it no longer has a physical home button. The device also has thinner bezels with which the screen is 10.9 “in size. The tablet has USB-C. There will also be a new iPad Pro, which has an M2 chip.
Apple brings the new iPads from October 26 from 589 euros. The tenth generation of the tablet is one of the biggest physical changes to the tablet to date. The device has a 10.9″ Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2360×1640 pixels, for a total of four million pixels and a brightness of 500 nits. The larger display is mainly due to the thinner bezels, which means that for the first time the traditional round home button on the bottom is no longer present on the device, instead Apple has put TouchID on the top of the device, on the power button, just like the recent iPad Air models.
The iPad does not run on Apple’s own M2 chip, but on the A14 Bionic soc, the same as in the iPhone 12. This would make the iPad three times faster than older models, Apple says.
Also striking about the new design is that the front camera is on the long side of the tablet. With this, Apple hopes to market the tablet even more as a laptop replacement that makes video calling easier. The front camera has an ultra-wide angle with a field of view of 122 degrees and a 12-megapixel sensor. That camera also includes the Center Stage software that always tracks and centers the user. Also on the back is a 12-megapixel camera that allows users to record 4K videos and has support for slow-motion videos at 240fps.
The new iPad is also the first tablet in the standard iPad lineup to use a USB-C connection. In addition, all models have support for Wi-Fi 6 and the model with 5G SIM slot can be purchased.
The iPad will receive support for the first generation stylus, the Apple Pencil, among other things. In addition, a new Magic Keyboard Folio will be released, which will cost 299 euros.
The new model is for sale from 589 euros for the cheapest model. That is the 64GB model without a SIM slot. There is also only one other model, a 256GB version that costs 789 euros. If users buy the model with SIM slot, the 64GB model costs 789 euros and the 256GB model 989 euros.
iPad Pro
Apple has also released a new iPad Pro. That is now the sixth generation of the professional tablet. This tablet does run on the M2 chip and is available in two screen sizes: one of 11 “and one of 12.9”. New to the models, in addition to the new chip, include a better screen with better black values and support for the ProMotion feature that can achieve a refresh rate of 120Hz.
The new Pro tablets now have support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, e, and will be available in models of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB with 8GB of RAM, or 1TB and 2TB models with 16GB of memory. The new model starts at 1069 euros for the 11″ version or 1469 euros for the 12.9″ version.
