Apple releases iOS 9.2 with improved Safari View Controller

Apple has released the final version of iOS 9.2. With the update, Apple makes improvements to the Safari View Controller, which gives more options for browsing within apps. Adjustments have also been made in the Music app.

With iOS 9.2, Apple releases the second major update for iOS 9, which appeared in September. Apple has made a number of improvements in the update to the Safari View Controller, which is the environment that app builders can use to allow users to visit web pages in an app.

Previously it was not possible in this environment to reload a page or to request the desktop page, nor could extensions for example managing passwords be used in the Safari View Controller. This is possible after the update to iOS 9.2.

Apple has also tweaked the Music app. It is now easier to see if a song has been saved offline. If a track is on the storage memory of the respective iOS device, this is indicated by an icon. When deleting, users are given the choice whether they want to delete the song only from the device or from their Music collection.

Furthermore, iOS 9.2 adds Arabic language support to Siri. Apple also promises various bug fixes. For example, the problem where set alarms are turned off after a software update should no longer occur. Owners of iPhones and iPads can expect the update over the air, or manually search for the software update to download the latest version. Apple also released Watch OS 2.1 on Tuesday.
