Apple releases iOS 12.4.2 for older iPhones and iPads
This month, iOS 13 and iPadOS appeared for the iPhone and iPad. Do you have an older device that is no longer supported by this latest operating system for the first time? Then there is still an update ready for you in the form of iOS 12.4.2.
For which iPhones and iPads?
iOS 12.4.2 is there for iPhones and iPads that were still suitable for iOS 12, but no longer for iOS 13. These are the following devices:
- iPhone 6 (Plus)
- iPhone 5s
- iPod touch (6th generation)
- iPad mini 2
- iPad mini 3
- iPad Air (first generation)
iOS 12.4.2
Occasionally Apple releases updates for older iPhones and iPads, but there must be a very good reason for that. So not for fancy new functions. The update has been released for security reasons, as can be read on Apple’s Support page. The vulnerability in the system was discovered by two ethical hackers from Google Project Zero.
If you still have an iPhone or iPad with iOS 12 on it, you can install the new version via ‘Settings> General> Software update’.
