Apple has announced a new version of its remote control app for the Apple TV. The Apple TV Remote app for iPhone includes support for touch gestures and Siri.

The updated app is available for devices with iOS version 9.3.2 or later and works with Apple TV’s second, third, and fourth generation systems. The app works on iPhones, iPads, and the iPod touch, but is not optimized for the iPad.

The operation is touch-sensitive and comparable to that of the remote control of the last generation of the Apple TV. The iPhone also allows users to enter text and use Siri for voice control.

The app supports motion control for games and includes a stripped-down Game Mode. For the time being, Apple will continue to offer the old app, but it is not known for how long. The new app had been available in beta since June, when Apple announced it at WWDC.
