Apple acknowledges that there may be problems with the entry-level models of the Macbook Pro 13″ released this year. These can suddenly shut down, while there should still be enough battery life. The company provides a roadmap that may solve the problem.

In a post on a support page, Apple writes about what users of this year’s 13-inch MacBook Pros can do when faced with a randomly shutdown laptop that should still have enough battery life. Specifically, this is the 13-inch model from Apple. the MacBook Pro from 2019, which is equipped with two Thunderbolt 3 connections. The more expensive variants of this laptop have more of these connections; these models are not known to be affected by this issue.

Apple says users experiencing the shutdown issue may benefit from taking the following steps. First of all, the indicated battery level must be below 90 percent. The laptop must then be connected to the mains and all programs must be closed. Users must then close the MacBook Pro to put it into sleep mode. The device must then be charged for at least eight hours. After those eight hours, users are expected to update to the latest version of macOS. Apple says that if these steps don’t fix the problem, users should get in touch.

During last summer, the Apple forum already reported about this problem. Then a user indicated that the system does not recognize the correct battery level. In concrete terms, according to him, this meant that if the battery actually has a capacity of 70 percent left, the system will display that as 100 percent. And if a percentage of 35 is indicated, the battery can actually already be at 0 percent. This user indicated that he solved the problem by charging the battery for an extra long time to make sure that the level was really at 100 percent, and then resetting the system management controller.
