Apple promises at least five years of security updates for iPhones and iPads
To comply with British regulations, Apple has said it will provide iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches with security updates for a minimum of five years. The warranty leaves open the possibility of supporting the devices for longer.
Apple has the guarantees posted on your own site. This shows that Apple has specified a minimum period of five years for all iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches since 2019. The same goes for the Apple TV and HomePods.
It is the first time that Apple has issued a warranty. That warranty is lower than that of some competitors on the smartphone market. Samsung and Google guarantee security updates for some of their phones for seven years. Fairphone guarantees updates for eight years.
Apple has often supported phones for longer than five years. Security updates are sometimes also released for phones that no longer receive iOS upgrades and are therefore running an old version of the operating system. As a result, the support period is often much longer than the guaranteed five years.
