Apple presents its own streaming service Apple TV+ for TV series and movies
During the big Apple presentation in Cupertino, Tim Cook announced Apple TV+. This is Apple’s own, new streaming service, which revolves around series, shows and movies. These can be viewed via the renewed Apple TV app, which will also be available separately from Apple hardware.
In the redesigned Apple TV app, users can find a catalog of movies, TV series, sports and news programs, where they can subscribe to the content they want, which is also available offline. Users can also subscribe to their favorite TV channels. According to Apple, the app makes recommendations for TV series and movies from more than 150 streaming services and pay channels, including Amazon Prime Video. In addition, iTunes movies and series can be rented or purchased via the app; these will no longer be available through the iTunes Store.
The new streaming service is part of the renewed Apple TV app, which will be released from May for smart TVs from Samsung, LG and Sony, among others. It is not yet clear for which TV models from the various manufacturers the app will be available. An app will also be released in the fall that will make the service available on Macs.
Some other features of the Apple TV+ service include no ads and all content is streamable and downloadable. Little or nothing has been said about the quality of the different streams and the different types of content. An image shows that the film Bumblebee can be viewed in 4k and HDR. Presumably, Dolby Vision will also be supported with the necessary films, since that is also the case with the Apple TV 4K.
The service will be available in more than 100 countries worldwide in the fall of this year, although it was not stated which countries it concerns. Information about the price and availability of this paid video streaming service from Apple will follow in the fall.
When the new streaming service Apple TV+ was announced, it was mainly about the content produced by Apple itself. For this, the company has engaged a range of well-known actors and content creators. Among them are filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, JJ Abrams and M. Night Shyamalan, who were all part of the presentation.
Spielberg was flown in to talk about a reboot of Amazing Stories, a Spielberg science fiction series from the 1980s. In addition, there will be a new post-apocalyptic series from Apple with the actor Jason Momoa, who is known from Aquaman and Games of Thrones, among others. The story of this TV series is about the earth where after a disaster in the future only a few million people are left and where no one can see anymore.
