Apple presents iPhone 13 phones with standard 128GB of storage
Apple presented the iPhone 13 phones at its own event. It’s about four phones again. The cheapest models now have 128GB of storage and a larger battery, Apple says. The prices remain the same.
The iPhone 13 models have the same screen diagonals and resolutions as the iPhone 12 phones. The Pro models do have an ltpo-oled screen, which means that they support higher refresh rates. That goes from 10Hz to 120Hz. Apple calls it ProMotion, just like on the iPad Pro.
The iPhone 13’s screens have a maximum brightness of 800 candelas per square meter. The Pros come up to 1000 candelas per square meter. All models go up to 1200 candela per square meter with HDR playback.
The new iPhones run on the A15 Bionic-soc with 15 billion transistors. That’s a 5nm SOC with two cores for performance and four economical cores for less demanding tasks. The GPU has four cores, but the Pro models get a variant with five cores. The ‘neural engine’ has sixteen cores, while the system cache is twice as large as in the predecessor A14 Bionic.
In the camera system, Apple has given all iPhone 13 models the sensor of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, with the larger 1/1.9″ sensor and optical image stabilization that moves the sensor instead of the lens. The ultra-wide angle lens would also be better have to perform in the new generation. The Pro models have an ultra wide-angle camera with f/1.8 lens and autofocus, which can serve as a macro camera and can focus from 2cm away.
The telephoto camera on the Pro models has a 77mm focal length in 35mm equivalent. That’s about three times magnification compared to the primary camera. All cameras on all iPhones support Night Mode for shooting in low light.
In video, a portrait mode has been added. For example, the focus can be adjusted afterwards and the software can blur the background. In addition, ProRes video support will be available on the new phones later this year. The iPhones have approximately the same design, although Apple has added new color options. The manufacturer does this every year. In addition, the notch is slightly smaller than before by moving the speaker to the top of the housing. The notch is 20 percent smaller.
The iPhone 13 and 13 mini now start with 128GB of storage, where the 12 and 12 mini had a 64GB variant. There will be 1TB variants of the Pro models. That will be added and the Pro models also start at 128GB.
The batteries of the iPhone 13 models are larger; that should lead to 1.5 hours longer use on the mini and 13 Pro and up to 2.5 hours longer on the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro Max. The iPhone 13 and 13 mini will be released next week and cost the same as their predecessors: 809 and 909 euros. The Pro models also have the same starting price, 1159 and 1259 euros.
