Apple presents 489 euro iPhone SE with 4.7″ LCD

Apple has announced a new relatively small iPhone. The iPhone SE is similar to the iPhone 8, but has the same A13-soc as the iPhone 11 models. The device will receive a 4.7-LCD and will cost 489 euros in a 64GB version.

Apple gives the new iPhone SE a housing that is very similar to the iPhone 8. The device has a 4.7″ LCD with a 16:9 ratio and large screen edges at the top and bottom. a home button with Touch ID fingerprint scanner Existing cases for the iPhone 8 are also suitable for the new iPhone SE.

The housing weighs 148 grams, is made of aluminum and finished with glass on the back. The iPhone SE is waterproof according to the ip67 rating. The device will receive the A13 Bionic soc, the soc that Apple also puts in the iPhone 11 series. There will be versions with 64GB, 128GB and 256GB flash storage.

On the back is a 12-megapixel camera and a flash. Apple promises good photo quality through the Smart HDR function that the A13-soc brings. The device also gets a portrait mode with monocular depth sensing. This is a function to create a depth of field effect in photos of people. The night mode that is on the iPhone 11 cameras is missing. The iPhone SE can film in 4k at 60fps and Apple claims that the device has ‘cinematic image stabilization’. On the front is a 7-megapixel camera.

Apple does not disclose the battery capacity of the new iPhone SE, but the specification page states that the battery life is comparable to that of the iPhone 8. The battery supports fast charging with 18W and is then fifty percent charged in thirty minutes. There is also support for wireless charging with Qi chargers.

The new iPhone SE can be ordered from 14:00 on Friday. The device will be available in stores on April 24. The phone has appeared frequently in the rumor circuit in recent months, sometimes also under the name iPhone 9 or iPhone SE 2. The new model is the cheapest iPhone that Apple now offers. Until recently, that was the iPhone 8, which was offered for 539 euros and has now disappeared from the range.
