Apple opens large offices outside headquarters because Silicon Valley is too expensive

Apple would struggle to find enough engineers and designers in the American Silicon Valley. That’s why the company would like to open more large offices in other regions and countries, writes Bloomberg author Mark Gurman.

Engineers and designers find the costs of living in Silicon Valley too high, writes Gurman in his newsletter. That’s why Apple is expanding to Washington, Texas and North Carolina, among others. Jobs will also be created in other countries, such as Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain. This concerns tens of thousands of jobs in total.

Apple has not confirmed the information. The company has had a new headquarters in Cupertino in Silicon Valley for several years now. Costs for houses, among other things, are so high in that region that many candidates do not want to move there, because they don’t think they can put money aside for later. Various top executives have been arguing for more large offices in different places for some time, in order to attract talented employees in cheaper places to live. As a result, Apple should attract more talent and it would also improve diversity in its workforce.

In addition, there is a chance that Apple will lose some of its staff due to the rules surrounding working from home. The company requires employees to be in the office on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. That lack of flexibility means that 36.7 percent of employees say they are considering quitting their job in a recent employee survey, The Verge writes.
