Apple Music has 6.5 million paying users
Apple’s streaming music service has a total of 15 million users, of which 6.5 million pay for the subscription. The other 8.5 million listeners are still using the three-month trial period.
That’s what Apple CEO Tim Cook said during the WSJ Live event. Apple introduced Apple Music June 30, with the release of iOS version 8.4. After a month, the service had 11 million users. So now there are 15 million, of which 6.5 million are paying. The biggest competitor Spotify, according to the latest figures, has 75 million active users, of which more than 20 million pay.
Cook went on to say that the new Apple TV, which was announced in September, will be delivered next week, but whether the media player will also come to the Benelux this month is unknown. The CEO reiterated that the Apple TV is a platform from which much more can be done.
Finally, Cook answered questions about cars. “When I look at cars I see that software is becoming an increasingly important part of the vehicle. You can see that autonomous driving is becoming increasingly important. It looks like a big change in that industry is on the way,” Cook said.
