Apple may allow hiding included apps in iOS

Apple may make it possible to hide included apps in iOS. This is evident from discovered keys in app metadata. Until now it is not possible to hide applications supplied by Apple.

Keys have surfaced in the metadata of various apps, including the name ‘IsFirstPartyHideableApp’, according to the AppAdvice site, a clear sign that it will be possible in the future to make apps from Apple invisible. The key can have the values ’true’ or ‘false’ and all apps so far have the value ‘false’, so the function does not work yet.

It is unknown if Apple will actually let users remove apps or if they will only be invisible on the home screens. It would be the first time that such a thing is possible. Google built such a feature in Android 5.0 a few years ago, while on Windows Phone, users can uninstall any app.

If Apple is going to implement the feature, it will likely be in the next major release of iOS. That will probably be iOS 10. The Cupertino company will hold its WWDC developer conference from June 8, at which it will probably show new features of iOS.
