Apple makes MacBook Air with improved keyboard available for 1199 euros
Apple has announced a new version of its MacBook Air. Apple is moving away from its problematic Butterfly keyboard with the Air and using the scissor-key keyboard it uses on the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
One of the major changes in the new MacBook Air is the inclusion of the Magic Keyboard instead of the slim Butterfly keyboard. Apple first used the Magic Keyboard with the 16″ MacBook Pro last year. The traditional scissor mechanism is supposed to eliminate the problems users experienced with the Butterfly keyboard. The keys have 1mm travel and the arrow keys are in an inverted T-setup.
Apple also builds more powerful CPUs in the Air. These are Intel processors of the tenth generation. The base model includes a Core i3 dual core clocked at 1.1GHz, turbo to 3.2GHz and 4MB L3 cache. This model is upgradeable to a 1.1GHz Core i5 with boost to 3.5GHz and 6MB L3 cache. In addition, there is a MacBook Air with the Core i5 as standard and an upgrade option from a Core i7 quad-core from 1.2GHz with boost to 3.8GHz and 8MB L3 cache. The GPU is Intel’s Iris Plus Graphics, where the previous Air generation had to make do with UHD Graphics 617. In addition, there is 8GB lpddr4x 3733MHz present. The previous model had 8GB 2133MHz lpddr3 memory.
Also new is that the base model has 256GB SSD storage, double the amount of the previous generation. In addition, a variant with 512GB is available, with expansion options to 1TB or 2TB. The MacBook Air has three microphones, for better recording of voices during video calls.
The starting price of the MacBook Air with Core i3 and 256GB storage is 1199 euros. The starting price of the variant with Core i5 and 512GB is 1499 euros.
