Apple made all developer apps unusable by revoking their certificate
Apple’s automated malware detection system has rendered all apps from a well-known macOS developer unusable without human intervention by revoking a certificate. The software said the apps would harm the computer.
All users were notified by macOS that the software would harm their computers and suggested removing the app, developer Charlie Monroe reports. It is unknown how many users are involved. He makes apps like Downie, EON Timer and UctoX. The situation has lasted more than a day in total.
Apple confirmed to a user that malicious code was found in the apps. Therefore, an automated system had revoked its certificate. After revoking the certificate, the developer’s account is also inaccessible and macOS shows warnings with the apps.
Apple has apologized. The developer was concerned that revoking the certificate would drive users away and mean the end of his business. Apple has not commented openly on the incident.
