Apple lets iOS switch to cellular data when Wi-Fi is poor
Apple has built in the latest test version of iOS 9 the ability to recognize if a user is suffering from a weak Wi-Fi signal. If someone has this new Wi-Fi Assist function turned on, the phone will automatically switch to 3g or 4g in the event of a bad connection.
Users of the latest test version for developers, beta 5, cannot set themselves at what time a signal is too weak and it is not known at which signal strength is automatically switched, AppleInsider reports. Presumably, with this feature, Apple wants to solve the problem that many users experience when they are near a known network and their device connects automatically, when the signal is actually too weak to provide a decent data connection.
Last month, Apple released a public test version of iOS 9. Anyone who signed up for the beta program was therefore eligible to download and install the new operating system, which was previously reserved for developers and specially registered devices. Apple will probably also update the public test version. Android has had a feature like Wi-Fi Assist for some time. In the advanced Wi-Fi settings there is an option to avoid ‘weak connections’.
