Apple launches repair program for failing iPhone 6s battery
Apple acknowledges an issue with early iPhone 6s where the phone turns itself off unexpectedly due to a battery problem. Customers who have problems with this can have the battery replaced free of charge.
According to Apple, it concerns a small number of copies of the iPhone 6s. They were all produced in September or October last year. Apple mentions on the page for the repair program that those copies are recognizable by the serial number, but it does not disclose which serial numbers are involved. The battery replacement program is also running in the Benelux.
The problem that Apple is talking about is recognizable to customers because the phone suddenly cuts out, while the battery did not seem to be empty yet. Apple emphasizes that it does not endanger the safety of phones, so there is no danger of the battery exploding.
It is the second program for a hardware issue in iPhones within a week. On Friday, the manufacturer launched a $167 repair program for problems with the touchscreen controller in some iPhone 6 Plus units.
