Apple has launched a replacement program for owners of 13-inch MacBook Pro laptops without Touch Bar produced between October 2016 and October 2017. The batteries in those laptops can fail and swell.

On the page about the replacement program, Apple states that the defect in the battery does not pose a threat. MacBook Pro laptop users can type in their laptop serial number on the page to check if their laptop’s battery may be at fault.

According to Apple, the issue only affects MacBook Pro models without Touch Bar made between October 2016 and October 2017. The models with Touch Bar and newer laptops seem to be safe.

Users of laptops with defective batteries can have the battery replaced free of charge at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Retailer. If the computer has other damage that prevents the battery from being replaced, costs may be charged for the repair.
