Apple is working on new Mac Pro that is easy to upgrade
Apple is working on a completely new Mac Pro, which, unlike the current cylindrical model, can be easily upgraded. The new high-end PC will not be released this year, when it is not yet known. Current models get better specs.
Apple’s marketing chief Phil Schiller says the company is “completely rethinking” the Mac Pro. Along with a new version of the computer, a new screen must also come out. The team working on the products has been tasked with creating a system that can be easily and efficiently upgraded. Apple admits that the current cylindrical version, which came out in 2013, is problematic in that regard.
According to Schiller, Apple is working hard on the new products, but they won’t hit the market this year. Schiller did not provide more specific information about the release. The CEO made the statements in a roundtable discussion with a number of journalists, including tech blogger John Gruber, in Apple’s ‘machine lab’, where the company is working on new hardware.
For now, the cylindrical Mac Pros remain the fastest computers Apple offers. New versions of those models appear with better specifications. The model, which costs 3449 euros, will receive a Xeon CPU with six cores and two AMD D500 GPUs. Now buyers get a Xeon quadcore and two D300 GPUs for that money. The more expensive model of 4649 euros will receive a Xeon CPU with eight cores and two AMD D700 GPUs, instead of the current Xeon with six cores and two D500 GPUs. Furthermore, Apple does not change the current Mac Pro cylinders or their contents. The housing remains the same, which means that there is also no USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 and that the LG UltraFine 5k screen cannot be connected.
