Apple claims that the update to iOS 10.2.1 will ensure that significantly fewer people have to deal with spontaneously falling iPhone 6 and 6s smartphones. According to the company, only a small percentage of users suffered from this ‘discomfort’.

Diagnostic data, according to Apple, shows that the iOS 10.2.1 update reduced the number of smartphones affected by the outage problem by 80 percent in the iPhone 6s models and by 70 percent in the iPhone 6 devices. It is not known why the adjustment of iOS does not solve the problem for every device.

According to Apple, iOS 10.2.1 is now half the number of active iOS devices. The spontaneous shutdown issue would not occur with the iPhone 7 models. According to TechCrunch, which received the statistics from Apple, the problem was due to energy spikes during high activity. Relatively old batteries would not be able to meet those peaks well, which would lead to the failure of the device.

Apple has also made changes to iOS that ensure that, should a user still experience an unexpected outage, the device will restart without the owners having to connect their smartphone to the mains. Many iPhone 6 owners had to do this if their device failed. According to Apple, it is not a security risk but an ‘inconvenience’ for a small percentage of users.
