Apple: iPhone 13 doesn’t support background noise reduction function

Apple confirms that iPhone 13 models do not support Phone Noise Cancellation function. This function to limit background noise is on earlier models such as the iPhone XS. It is unknown why the feature is not present.

According to 9to5mac, this omission initially seemed like a bug, but the site now writes that Apple seems to have removed the function and does not see it as a problem. The website bases this partly on short statements from Apple employees. For example, there was a reader who has been hoping for an update for months to fix this issue, but it doesn’t seem to be coming. He was told by Apple that the feature is not available on the iPhone 13. Apple’s support team informed 9to5mac that this information is correct and that it is not supported.

The Phone Noise Cancellation function is intended to reduce background noise during telephone conversations in the situation where the user holds the receiver to their ear. This feature has a toggle on earlier iPhone models to manually turn it on or off. The function can be found on older iPhone models under Accessibility and Audio-Visual. It is also intended to help users with hearing problems; the feature uses a microphone to filter out background noise so that these users can better understand their conversation partners. The function is therefore not intended to improve the call quality for the other caller.

Earlier, another user said that Apple is aware of this matter. This user calls it a major flaw and states that, for example, it causes problems with echoes via CarPlay when talking between multiple iPhone 13 devices.

With iPhone series that came out before the iPhone 13, the noise canceling function including toggle is still available, even if those phones run on iOS 15. Current iOS 15.2 and iOS 15.3 beta have not changed the support of this feature on iPhone 13 models. There is the Voice Isolation feature, but it only works for FaceTime.
