Apple iPad Pro bends and breaks just as easily as its predecessor

The new iPad Pro bends and breaks just as easily as its 2018 predecessor of the same name, according to a test and teardown of EverythingApplePro. It seems that the housing is for the most part the same.

Applying pressure to the case quickly breaks the metal edge, claims EverythingApplePro. In his test, this happened first around the Smart Connector, but also at the microphone on the other long side. This also happened fairly smoothly with the USB-c port. According to the YouTuber, it seems that Apple has not made any changes to make the case more sturdy. Apple previously admitted that slight bends in the housing of its predecessor are ‘normal’. Just like its predecessor, the iPad Pro no longer has a curved metal housing, but a metal edge. The curvature probably gave previous versions of the iPad more sturdiness.

EverythingApplePro also took a close look at the inside of the case. It shows that the Apple A12Z-soc is almost the same size as the A12X from the iPad Pro of 2018. It also shows that one of the battery parts is slightly shorter, presumably because of the space that the new camera set-up occupies. The battery capacity is also slightly lower than with the previous iPad Pro.

The time-of-flight sensor, of course, consists of a module that emits infrared rays and a camera that can capture them. By calculating how long the beam has taken, it is possible to find out how far an object is. Apple uses the cool sensor, which the manufacturer refers to as lidar, for augmented reality.

Apple announced the new iPad Pro last week. The new iPads are already on sale for a price starting at 899 euros, but the new corresponding keyboard cover with trackpad will appear on the market in May.
