Apple invests 1.7 billion euros in two European data centers

Apple has announced that it will invest 1.7 billion euros in the construction of data centers in Denmark and Ireland. The new and, according to Apple, very environmentally friendly data centers should be operational in 2017.

In Ireland, the data center is being built in Athenry, while the Danish computing center is to be located in Viborg. According to Apple, the data centers will have a surface area of ​​166,000 m². The two European data centers should be put into operation in 2017. According to Apple, the data centers are intended to better serve European customers with cloud services such as the App Store and Siri.

The iPhone manufacturer states that it will set up ‘green’ data centers. For example, the data center in Denmark must start using energy based on residual heat from a nearby power plant. In turn, the data center could also use its residual heat to heat houses. In Ireland, a tree plantation is due to fall, but Apple promises to make up for it by planting new trees in a nearby forest.
