Apple iCloud Keychain gets support for two-factor authentication

Apple is planning a major update to password manager iCloud Keychain, adding support for passwords via two-factor authentication and warning users if they use the same password for multiple services.

The updates are in iCloud Keychain for iOS 14, 9to5Mac reports based on an early build it got its hands on for Apple’s upcoming mobile operating system. By integrating with two-factor authentication methods, users no longer have to rely on SMS for codes. Texting is a proven insecure second factor in two-factor authentication.

In addition, the software would warn users if they use the same password for multiple services. iCloud Keychain doesn’t currently do that. With the new features, Apple’s password manager would be closer to paid services like 1Password, LastPass, and Keepass.

Apple has not responded to the rumor. The site 9to5Mac has already released information based on an early build of iOS 14 in recent weeks. For example, the Apple Watch should measure blood oxygen, the OS contains icons of over-ear headphones and there were indications for a new remote control. for Apple TV.
