Apple HomeKit support is available for Arlo Ultra security cameras
Arlo has made its flagship wireless security camera compatible with Apple HomeKit. The Arlo Ultra can now be controlled via the Apple Home app and with Siri voice commands. The camera system costs at least 500 euros.
The Arlo Ultra cameras work in conjunction with the Arlo SmartHub VMB5000. It was already possible to control the cameras via the Arlo app and there was also integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Following a firmware update that adds HomeKit integration, it is now possible to control the cameras on iOS devices from the Apple Home app.
Users can receive notifications in the Apple Home app when the Arlo Ultra security camera detects motion. With Siri, the live stream of a connected camera can be called up via a voice command.
The brand says Arlo wireless cameras will now be HomeKit compatible. This seems to indicate that new models are also receiving support. Arlo does not mention HomeKit support for older models. Arlo was part of Netgear until last year, but was spun off and now operates independently.
The Arlo Ultra system consists of 4K wireless cameras that run on a battery. A set with base station and one camera costs 500 euros. There are also sets with two, three or four cameras, for 800, 1000 and 1300 euros. The cameras work with the Arlo Smart Premier subscription service for image storage and image recognition of people, vehicles and packages.
