Apple has pushed back the deadline for mandatory support for App Transport Security. Developers had to make their apps suitable for secure https connections by January 1, but are now given more time.

Apple has announced the cancellation of the January 1 deadline on its developer site. The company has not yet given a new deadline. The company wants to give app developers more time to prepare, which indicates that not all developers were ready for the implementation.

Last summer, Apple announced that it would require support for App Transport Security for apps added to the App Store. ATS uses tls 1.2, the successor to the ssl protocol for encrypted connections. The company introduced ATS with the arrival of iOS 9 and OS X 10.11.
