In the investigation into the iPhone 6s devices that have fallen out, Apple will look further than just the copies from September and October 2015. This in response to reports from users that copies made in other time periods also fail.

Apple emphasizes in Chinese and English that a small number of users have reported the issues. It is not known from which period the iPhones in question come and how many devices have been affected. Apple will release a software update next week that includes diagnostic tools that will allow the company to remotely diagnose the problem.

Last week, Apple reported that “a small number of iPhone 6s devices contain a battery component that was exposed to controlled ambient air for too long before being built into the battery.” As a result, the quality of these batteries decreases faster than normal, which ensures that the iPhone switches itself off. Based on the serial number, owners of the iPhone 6s can determine whether their device is affected and whether they are therefore eligible for a free battery replacement.

It is the second program for hardware problem in iPhones in a short time. In November, the manufacturer launched a $167 repair program for touchscreen issues in some iPhone 6 Plus units.
