Apple demands $180 million more from Samsung for ‘damage suffered’
Apple is demanding another $180 million from Samsung in patent infringement dispute. This is evident from documents submitted to the court by Apple on Wednesday. The documents concern five smartphones that were sold in 2012 after the claim.
The claim follows Samsung’s recently paid $548 million in damages to Apple in connection with a 2012 Apple won lawsuit. The Korean company is alleged to have infringed various Apple software and design patents. The compensation now claimed concerns five phones that were sold after this ruling.
It is still unclear which patents have been considered infringed by Apple in this claim, Reuters news agency reported. The case, which dates back to 2011, seems to have no end, except that in March 2013 a US court ruled that the initial fine of $930 million for the 2012 case was too high because a jury made mistakes that allowed Samsung. had to pay ‘only’ 548 million dollars.
Samsung also finds the latter amount too much and claims to be entitled to a refund if future judgments give reason to do so. It is not yet clear whether and how this amount of 180 million dollars fits into this.
