Apple cuts iPhone prices in China

Apple is said to have lowered the prices of iPhones in China this week. That reports the Chinese site of National Business Daily. The iPhone XR has become about 8 percent cheaper, according to the site. Apple rarely lowers prices.

NBD reports that it has been informed about the price cuts of almost all iPhones, such as the XS, 8 and 8 Plus. The biggest price cut would be the XR, which goes from 5700 yuan to 5250 yuan. That’s a price reduction of about 8 percent. If Apple were to apply such a price reduction in the Benelux, the XR would go from 859 euros to about 790 euros.

Retailers are said to have been instructed by Apple to lower prices, but Apple’s site itself does not mention anything. Apple sells the XR on its own site in China for 6499 yuan and it already was. The exact price reductions of the other models are unknown. Apple has not responded to the rumor. The prices of iPhones rarely go down, although the manufacturer has previously given providers in Japan a discount on the purchase to bring the price of the phone down.

Apple warned shareholders last week that iPhone sales have been disappointing in recent months. A big factor in this is the disappointing sales in China, where the economy is no longer growing as quickly as before, according to Apple. In addition, many people want to last longer with their current model, something that CEO Tim Cook is fine with.
