Apple continues to cut iPhone production

Apple continues to cut back on iPhone production, just as the company did in the previous quarter. The disappointing sales of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus would ensure that Apple is trying to reduce its stock.

The business newspaper Nikkei reports that this information comes from messages from parts manufacturers. In the previous quarter, the Cupertino company already cut iPhone production by 30 percent, and the decision would be held in the current quarter.

Also, Apple is said to have no plans to produce a large number of copies of the iPhone SE. The company could do this to compensate for the disappointing sales of the 6-series, according to Nikkei. However, if the next iPhone is announced before September, production could pick up again from the end of May.

Reduced production has consequences for suppliers such as Japan Display, Sharp, Toshiba and Sony. On Friday, the rumor came out that Samsung would supply 100 million OLED screens for the iPhone from 2017 onwards. Nikkei reports that 1.5 billion smartphones are sold worldwide every year, but that the growth in that market is slowing.
