Apple and Ericsson enter into licensing agreement for mobile technology

Apple and Ericsson have entered into a licensing agreement on the use of ‘standard mobile technology and other patent rights’. The companies are thus putting an end to years of legal battle.

Ericsson writes in a statement that the licensing agreement “lasts for several years and applies worldwide.” As part of the agreement, all legal disputes between the two companies have been resolved. It is not entirely known what exactly Apple and Ericsson have agreed on.

The tech companies had filed several cases against each other in recent years. Apple sued Ericsson in 2015 because its LTE patents were allegedly undervalued by the Swedish company. However, Ericsson responded with its own lawsuit claiming that the iPhone and iPad infringed on its patented ideas. However, the two companies reached an agreement that lasted seven years.

When the agreement was about to expire, Ericsson filed a new lawsuit in October 2021. Apple would systematically undervalue Ericsson’s patents. Another lawsuit followed in January 2022. Apple was sued for alleged infringement of Ericsson’s patents with 5G and other patents related to network technology.
