Apple adds 2TB option to iCloud

Apple has added a 2TB option for storage on iCloud. Until now, the manufacturer offered a maximum storage of 1TB. Customers don’t get a quantity discount: the 2TB option costs double what the 1TB variant costs now.

Apple asks 19.99 euros per month in the Benelux to be able to store 2TB on its servers. The 1TB of 9.99 euros per month was the most expensive option so far, 9to5Mac reports. The prices for Europe are listed on Apple’s support page.

The prices for iCloud remain the same: 50GB continues to cost 99 cents, while Apple asks for €2.99 per month for 200GB. The 2TB option is rare in the web storage market. Only Mega also has a 2TB option and asks for the same price. Dropbox, for example, offers 1TB with Pro for 8.25 euros per month, Microsoft has 1TB for seven euros per month on Onedrive. Google offers more options with Drive, but after 1TB for 9.99 euros per month, the next option is 10TB for 99.99 euros per month. Finally, Amazon offers unlimited storage with Prime Drive for $65 a year.

The timing of the introduction of Apple’s 2TB option is striking, because the manufacturer is holding an event next week at which it is expected to showcase the iPhone 7. It also reportedly has twice as much storage. The cheapest version would get 32GB of storage instead of the 16GB of the iPhone 6s, while the most expensive version goes to 256GB instead of 128GB.
