Apple has acquired British startup AI Music, according to Bloomberg. That is the maker of the Infinite Music Engine, software for generating dynamic soundtracks, for example based on the user’s heart rate.

The acquisition is said to have been completed in recent weeks, Bloomberg writes. Apple and AI Music have not communicated anything about that. The start-up’s website has been taken offline. The company would have about twenty employees.

AI Music is the developer of the Infinite Music Engine and, according to a description as posted on the company’s site, it is capable of creating soundtracks using royalty-free music combined with artificial intelligence.

The software creates a soundtrack that changes based on interaction, for example in a game, or the heartbeat of a user doing a workout. AI Music also had a deal with an advertising company to change the music of advertising depending on who was watching. It is not known how Apple intends to deploy the software.

Apple regularly takes over small businesses without mentioning it. Bloomberg notes that Apple made far fewer acquisitions last year than in previous years. In 2021, the iPhone manufacturer spent $33 million on acquisitions. In 2020 it was still 1.5 billion dollars and in 2019 it was 624 million dollars.
