App from social network Trump is not yet on Google Play
Former President Donald Trump’s social network app will not be available on Google Play for the time being. The Android digital store has not yet given approval due to concerns about content moderation.
A spokesperson for Google leave The Axios website, among others, said: “On August 19, we notified Truth Social of several default policy violations in their current app submission and reiterated that having effective systems for moderating user-generated content is a condition of our terms of service for each app to go live on Google Play”.
Google says it has offered Truth Social help to resolve the issues. According to the spokesperson, the social network has taken this feedback to heart and would work to address the issues mentioned. It is not known whether and when the platform can solve these issues.
This would mainly concern Google’s concerns about content such as physical threats and calls for violence. There are special banners that flag ‘sensitive content’ before it can be read, indicating that the content may not be suitable for all users. Nevertheless, there would still be content on the platform in which, for example, violence is threatened.
Truth Social is an initiative of a company of former President Donald Trump. The major social media companies deleted his accounts last year after the January 6, 2021 uprising. That uprising aimed to prevent the election victory of Trump opponent Joe Biden from being ratified. Truth Social has been available on iOS since February.
