Apex Legends viewership on Twitch has fallen sharply since February
Apex Legends appeared out of nowhere in February and the battle royale game quickly became very popular, both in terms of player count and viewership. However, the latter figure has been in a serious nosedive on streaming platform Twitch for some time.
Data on the Twitchmetrics website shows that the average number of people watching Apex Legends on Twitch has dropped significantly. In the first weeks, the number was invariably above 200,000 viewers with peaks of over 300,000. Since February 19, however, there has been a clear downward trend and it does not seem to be coming to an end yet.
On Monday the average number was more than 25,500 and that figure climbed to almost 39,000 on Tuesday, but those numbers are far from the figures from February. The viewership of League of Legends and Dota 2 in particular is currently significantly higher, but Overwatch, for example, is also being watched more closely. The declining trend of viewers on the dominant streaming platform Twitch is probably not directly reflected in the number of active players of Apex Legends; the most recently published figure is from a month ago when it came in at 50 million. As far as we know, that number is still rising.
A possible explanation for the sharp drop in viewership is the necessary criticism from players about the lack of new content. The first official Battle Pass came out a month ago, but there has been quite a bit of criticism about the leveling system and the rewards. Players complain about a lack of variety, bugs and the presence of hackers in the game lobbies. In addition, after the release, there were quite a few well-known streamers who published their game sessions on Twitch, but that too has decreased.
