Apex Legends Versions for PS5 and Xbox Series Consoles Coming Tuesday
Respawn Entertainment will release the next-gen version of Apex Legends on Tuesday, March 29. The update adds support for HDR and higher resolutions to the game, among other things. A 120fps mode will follow later.
Respawn Entertainment writes that the new version of the game supports 4k resolutions on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, but not the Xbox Series S. The same goes for shadow maps at higher resolution and higher level-of-detail distances. The game will also get ‘full 60Hz gameplay’ and HDR support for the PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
A 120fps mode for the three consoles will follow in a future update, the studio reports. It is not known when that will happen. The game will also receive support for the adaptive triggers and haptics of the DualSense controller for the PS5 at a later date. Further visual and audio improvements will also follow at a later date, but Respawn Entertainment will not disclose exactly what those improvements will entail.
The update will be delivered automatically to Xbox users via Smart Delivery. PS5 users who currently have Apex Legends installed can install the new version by selecting Apex Legends from the PS5 interface and then pressing the options button. There, users can select the PS5 version, after which they can uninstall the PS4 version of Apex Legends. PS5 users who do not currently have Apex Legends installed can select the game version while downloading.
The patch also brings a new Arena playing field on Tuesday, called Drop-Off. With that, the two-week Warriors Collection event kicks off, in which Control makes a return. That 9v9 game mode will be available until April 12. In Control, players and their team must jointly gain control of three points on a playing field. Furthermore, the update brings several bug fixes and changes, in addition to new rewards and cosmetics.
