Apex Legends map leaked years ago but went undetected

Apex Legends came out in early February as a big surprise. The battle royale game was not announced before, no teasers were ever shown, let alone a trailer. It now appears that the map was already leaked a year ago, but that went virtually unnoticed.

In March 2018, user hiticonic posted an image in the Titanfall subreddit showing the “alleged minimap of a Titanfall battle royale game.” The user did not provide further information, as he did not state where the image came from.

At the time, it generated mainly skeptical and negative reactions. The response with the most upvotes expresses the hope that this will not become a reality. Another comment notes that the minimap is scaled incorrectly. Incidentally, not everyone is negative, a number of reddit users like the game. What is particularly striking is that the topic received little attention and has disappeared into the archives almost unnoticed.

Respawn Entertainment did notice the leaked minimap at the time. This is according to a response from community manager Jayfresh_Respawn. In a recent thread on reddit, he says it was a relief to see people not taking the leak seriously and that he thought “at least next year that person can say he was right.”

Notably, hiticonic, who published the leaked map, is a moderator of the Apex Legends subreddit. A theory now being raised by other users is that it was a deliberate leak. If so, it would have had little effect anyway.

Apex Legends came out at the beginning of February and managed to attract millions of players in a short time. The minimap that leaked out last year is not exactly the same as the one in the game now, but there are many similarities.
