AOC releases 49″ monitor with 165Hz panel and resolution of 5120×1440 pixels

AOC releases an updated version of the existing AG493UCX monitor. The new AG493UCX2 is also a 49″ monitor with a 32:9 ratio and a resolution of 5120×1440 pixels, although the refresh rate of the VA panel has been increased from 120 to 165Hz.

The AOC AG493UCX2 has a curvature of 1800R, which means that the degree of bending is equal to the curvature of a circle with a radius of 1.8 meters. The contrast ratio is 3000:1 and the response time is 1ms according to the manufacturer, although that is the MPRT value and not the gray-to-gray response time. Adaptive Sync is also supported, within a range of 48 to 165Hz.

The screen has a brightness of 550cd/m² and VESA has awarded it a DisplayHDR label. It concerns the DisplayHDR 400 label. This is the lowest DisplayHDR label that the standardization organization can assign to monitors. It means that although the screen supports HDR, the HDR experience will not be very convincing. Furthermore, the monitor can display 91 percent of the DCI-P3 color space.

In terms of specifications, the AG493UCX2 is very similar to the recently announced Philips 498P9Z. It is probably the same panel. That is probably no coincidence. This Philips monitor is made by MMD, part of TP Vision. The latter also releases screens under the AOC brand name.

The Philips 498P9Z has a suggested retail price of 1149 euros and, like the AG493UCX2, has a kvm switch. The suggested retail price of the new AOC screen is still unknown, but will probably be close to the suggested retail price of 1149 euros. The Philips screen will be available from August; when the AG493UCX2 will go on sale is still unclear.
